Hi. My name is Greg, and I live in Northwestern Ohio. I
work at First Solar, an alternative energy company, in Perrysburg, Ohio, as a
semiconductor coater. The semiconductors I coat become photovoltaics or
solar panels.
Before I began my first class at UAGC, I was certain I was going to major in cyber and data security. In TEC 100, though, I learned that artificial intelligence (AI) already accounts for fifty percent of cyber and data security expenditures. This knowledge made my career choice more indeterminate and led me to explore other areas of interest in the information technology field. Three areas that piqued my interest were networking, databases, and programming languages.
I enjoyed learning about network hardware, network media, and protocols used in both wired and wireless networks. Databases also stimulated my interest due to First Solar’s heavy dependence on SQL. All the engineers are proficient in SQL, structured query language, and run many database queries each day.
Likewise, programming languages were of interest because these contain the instructions necessary for a computer to carry out a human's command. There are many subsets of code, short for programming languages, depending on just how these human commands are translated into commands the computer can understand.
I hope to gain from this current course a comprehensive understanding of the field
of information technology, a broad understanding that I hope leads me to find
my niche in the field.
I am currently enrolled in TEC101 at the University of Arizona Global Campus. I’m creating this blog to help gain employment
after graduation by showcasing my growth in knowledge as I progress through the curriculum.
